Your friendly neighbourhood freelance copywriter

Adele wears a flowy black dress and stands against a bright pink bougainvillea with a bright blue sky above. She holds her hands in her pockets and is smiling while looking at the ground, mid movement.

Your small biz brings real joy, and it deserves feel-good messaging to match.

Words that sound like you, and make your dream customers comfy.

Words that pulse with your story, brand voice, and quirks.

Words that stop-the-scroll and inspire action.

Because you’ve put your heart and soul into this.

Let’s create a vibe.

My story was inspired by yours.

Your tailor-made service.

And the colour, comfort, and magic it brings to our everyday lives.

You’re the local creative, the business owner, and the entrepreneur who makes my community so darn good.

And I launched Bookleaf Copy to help you shout that goodness from the suburban rooftops.

Adele wears a colourful, geometric playsuit and stands against a low brick wall on an inner-city rooftop holding a drink. In the background the sun is setting over business and residential rooftops, with a few tree canopies in view too.

I’m Adele Hollywood.

A former communications consultant and speechwriter, turned freelance copywriter.

On a mission to help local brands chuck robotic-sounding copy in the bin.

Because you are not generic.

What you do deserves bespoke, vibe-makin’ words. No cookie cutters or cheap templates round here.

I can’t wait to show you how the right words will separate you from the rest.

I’ve been paid to write for more than a decade.

Helping a bunch of West Aussie brands and humans tell their stories. Even tapping away on my keyboard as a trusted vice-regal speechwriter for three WA Governors.

But what does this all mean for you?

Conversational copy and storytelling is my happy place.

I love slippin’ into different brand voices. And working with rhythm, pacing, grammar, and tone to create a feeling.

(Using these techniques, we’ll get your dream customers to know, love, and trust you. Bewdy.)

How Bookleaf sprouted

In 2022, I took a giant leap of faith. I quit my (*gulp*) permanent government job to chase my passion for words.

I loved my comms career but I was tired of the hustle-hustle events and reactive media duties that came with it (and often outta’ hours).

It was time to focus on the part that actually brought me joy: writing to captivate and persuade.

Aka: copywriting.

I realised:

  • Writing for people who have a passion (that’s you!) is what I love.

  • Helping you share your purpose with creative, easy-to-read words is my idea of a good day.

  • Shining a light on small biz stories is somethin’ our community needs more of.

  • I can do this from home — and have a better work-life-toddler balance: uh, hell yeah.

Fast forward to now:

I’m helping local brands and solopreneurs spread the word/s about their thing with fun, conversational, sign-me-up copy. Yaaas.

I’m ready to help you:

  • express who you are and what you do with personality-packed copy.

  • play to your strengths and define your vibe with a bespoke brand messaging strategy (coming soon!)

  • clarify and sharpen your words with friendly edits.

  • break the grammar rules with style so that your brand voice always shines through.

  • attract more of your dream customers with a vibe that’s genuinely you.

“Adele writes beautifully. She is creative and diligent. She knows what is important, and ensures its effective portrayal. I can thoroughly recommend her.”

33rd Governor of Western Australia

Extra bits

I’m:

  • in writing. Phew, right?

In 2009 I graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Cultural Studies.

Majoring in Professional Writing and Publishing, and Creative Writing.

  • as a writer and digital comms specialist since 2011.

Before I started freelancing in 2022, my words and edits were published in more than 100 vice-regal speeches for three Governors of Western Australia (Sanderson, Beazley, and Dawson), in news articles and thought leadership pieces, in digital and print consumer publications for WA Health and Perth Children’s Hospital, and on three State Government websites that I managed as a webmaster and site author.

    Stalk me on LinkedIn

  • I’m always sharpening my skills in the art and science of copywriting, SEO (search engine optimisation) and brand strategy.

When I’m not writing your words, you'll find me nodding along to industry podcasts or getting cosy with a cup of tea and an online masterclass.

  • The Bookleaf Mallee is my spirit plant.

I first clapped eyes on it during a walk at Kings Park. And I’ve been a bit obsessed ever since.

    Turns out:

    • We’re both hardy, West Australian natives who enjoy the sun and coastal sands (and an occasional ‘drink’, too).

    • We’re straggly and unusual.

    • And we wear our pale, heart-shaped leaves on our branches (sleeves).

It’s said the Bookleaf’s overlapping leaves resemble the pages of a book. So you could *also* say that we share a love for a good story.

The Bookleaf (Koodjat in Noongar) is my favourite eucalyptus and I’m proud to adopt it as part of my biz name.

(I also hope it puts Western Australia’s beaut native flora on some more radars.)

  • I’m a fool for:

    • a bright, geometric pattern

    • an Aussie eucalypt

    • em dashes

    • a frosty orange wine

    • (with a) homemade lasagne

    • shopping local

    • Inglewood, 6052

    • Helen Garner

    • Kath Day-Knight

    • people who can do (my) mental maths

    • sunny afternoons with house music in the air

    • cry-laughing at Taskmaster UK

    • reading my fave childhood books with my toddler.
